CATHOLIC CHURCH OF MARY
MOTHER OF GOD, PONDERS END (WESTMINSTER DIOCESE)

THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

Significance of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the means through which adults become full members of the Catholic Church. It restores the ancient sequence of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation as the three interlinked sacraments of initiation. It provides a model upon which the sacramental preparation in the parish is based. It emphasizes that conversion to Christ is an on-going process that takes place within the community of the faithful, and that is marked by the celebration of the liturgical rites.

Adults who are over 17 years of age and are interested in becoming Catholics meet regularly with their sponsors and other members of the parish community to study and discuss areas of Catholic belief and practice, and to pray and reflect on the Word of God together. They celebrate the stages of their journey into the Church by public rites, culminating in their full reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday.

Preparing for the Rite of Christian Initiation
The RCIA group meets usually on Monday evenings in the parish hall at 8:00pm. We welcome those interested in becoming Catholics, those willing to sponsor and support enquirers, and Catholics who want to learn more about their faith. Come along on a Monday or speak to one of the parish team (whose details appear below) to find out more about the excitement of growing into an adult faith.

We also welcome those adult Catholics who have already been baptised and have not yet received Communion or been Confirmed.
