Message from the Parish Priest

The Parish of St Mary, Mother of God presents this site to you as a means of really getting to know about our Parish Family here in Ponders End, Enfield. For newcomers, it is a way of offering a welcome. For our 'regulars', it is intended as a source of information. For those we rarely have contact with, it comes with the hope that it might move them to become more involved with the active life of our Parish Community. It would be wonderful if we could all work together to build a friendly, loving community with the Lord at the heart of it. This, of course, is an on-going process and requires the openness and hardworking collaboration of everyone concerned.
Revd. Fr. John Shewring (Parish Priest)

PARISHES AROUND ENFIELD WITH HOLY DOOR OF MERCY: Do you know that Our Lady of Mount Carmel & St. George's Parish in Enfield (EN2 6DS) and Our Lady of Immaculate Conception & St Joseph's Parish in Waltham Cross (EN8 7DP) both have a Holy Door? Consider making a pilgrimage to these parishes during this Jubilee year in order to meet the requirements for a plenary indulgence.

REMEMBER IN ORDER TO GAIN ANY INDULGENCE YOU MUST BE IN A GRACE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. Please endeavour to go for Sacramental confession before and/or during a visit to designated Holy doors.

THE INDULGENCE OF FORGIVENESS – PLENARY INDULGENCE AT THE PORTIUNCULA
St Francis of Assisi awoke one night in 1261 at the Portiuncula and an inspiration stronger than usual prompted him to arise and go into the little chapel. He knelt in prayer and he prayed, our Lord and our Lady appeared to him and requested for St Francis to ask to what the Saint desired most. “O God,” he prayed, although I am a great sinner; I beseech you to grant full pardon of all sins to all who, having repented and confessed their sins, shall visit this church.” And our Lord, replied, “Francis, you ask for much, however you are worthy of greater things, and greater things you shall have.
Our parish shall organise in the Church at 2ND AUG 2016.

The Legion of Mary is an Association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces (who is fair as the moon, bright as the sun, and — to Satan and his legionaries — terrible as an army set in battle array), have formed themselves into a Legion for service in the warfare which is perpetually waged by the Church against the world and its evil powers. The Society is a lay organisation initially formed in Paris in 1833 by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and his companions, and active in England & Wales since 1844. Placed under the Patronage of St Vincent de Paul, it is inspired by his thinking and works. It seeks, in the spirit of justice and charity, to help those who are suffering poverty in whatever form. Holy Father's Intentions for JUL. 2016

This month, Pope Francis will be praying for the elderly, as well as young people just starting off in their vocations.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for June.

The Holy Father’s universal prayer intention for June is: “That the aged, marginalised, and those who have no-one may find, even within the huge cities of the world, opportunities for encounter and solidarity.”

His intention for evangelisation is: “That seminarians and men and women entering religious life may have mentors who live the joy of the Gospel and prepare them wisely for their mission.” - Pope’s June Prayer Intentions Span Old and Young Posted by ZENIT Staff on 31 May, 2016
