Statement from the Catholic Archbishop Smith
Very many people of all faiths and none will be concerned about a Bill to legalise Assisted Suicide in England and Wales which will be debated in the House of Commons on 11th September 2015. This private members Bill, introduced by Rob Marris MP, will have a free vote and it is important that people make their views known to their own MP ahead of this extremely important debate.
Information about the issues, together with resources and guidance will be circulated to all parishes in the next week or two.
There are excellent resources:
· on the Bishops Conference website
· and the website of the Anscombe Bioethics centre
I strongly urge all Catholics to contact their own MP as soon as possible to express their concern about the dangerous impact which such a Bill would have on the most vulnerable people. MPs do listen to their own constituents. What is needed is more and better palliative care, not assistance with suicide.

Do you want to know more about the Catholic faith?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which the Church responds to the request of people to, initially, know more about the Catholic faith and then perhaps to ask to become members of the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation ie: Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion.
Some people may have been Baptised in another tradition, for instance Church of England, or Baptist or Methodist and so on. For them it would be a request for conversion to the Catholic faith through Confirmation and Holy Communion.
For others who have aready been baptiesd as Catholic but have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation or Holy Communion, it would mean completing the process of initiation into full union with the Catholic Church.
Whatever their condition the Church is ready and wiling to respond to the call of God in people's lives and to help them move towards becoing full adult members of the Catholic Church. To learn more, please, contact:

Our youth clubs are shortly to being their seventh school year and it is wonderful to reflect from time to time on this parish success story.
Many hundred of young people have spent quality time with their peers on Friday nights in our hall and out and about on days out and residential trips.
Under the guidance of Emma, our Youth Worker, the clubs grow from strength to strength.
Of course, it’s also a great joy to see our young people develop in to young adults and move to university and beyond.
On Saturday 8 August we held our first reunion at the Gazan restaurant in Ponders End for those who have attended our youth club and group over the last few years.
A true testimony to the strength of the bonds developed over the years was brought into wonderfully sharp focus as 40 of the Parish young adults attended the dinner.
Here are a few photos capturing the evening and including one of Ann, who was presented with some flowers by those who attended – a smashing moment!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and talk has started on the development of something for this young adult community.

We are appealing to Parishioners to assist us in supporting Mary's Meal by
donating unwanted clothing including bags, shoes, blankets, towels, curtains and bedding (no duvet or pillows please).
Put the clothing and bedding items into sacks and bring them to Mass on Sunday 20th September. The charity, Mary's Meals will be here to pick them up.
Amazingly, 3 full black sacks of reasonable quality clothing will feed a child one good nutritious meal every school day for a whole year!
Mary's Meals is a charity that sets up school feeding programmes in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.
Mary's Meals currently feeds over 1 million children one good meal every school day.
